Hero Worship Part VI - Alex Lifeson

This guy really should have come first. In fact all three members of Rush should have come first since more than any other musician or group they were the ones who inspired me to become a musician myself. I played drums for several years learning their songs to the best of my ability, then switched to bass as a step towards guitar then finally guitar. This is the only band (with the possible exception of Led Zeppelin) whose songs I can play on all three instruments. So here's to you Mr. Canadian Prog Rock Star! Side note: this series is getting prohibitively long! I already have 8 more guitarists to spotlight and that's just the ones everybody knows! I'm feeling really guilty about not providing all sorts of interesting technical and biographical data onb these dudes but you know what? If you';re reading this you have access to www.wikipedia.com which is where I'd find that crap anyway so ... Viva La Strangiato!

I use to hang out with these two guys named Mike; one happen to be small and the other big hence, Little/Big Mike. They both were avid Rush fans (this was in the 80's) complete with the look; the long curly hair.

Whenever someone mentions Rush, those memories of the Mikes coming haunting my brain. It's a good haunting though. ;)

My favorite - George Lynch, baby.

God! I loved Dokken.

Oh man, he wasn't even on the list not being one of my heroes. Steve Vai, Tony Iommi, Santana, Angus Young.Ritchie Blackmore, Jerry Garcia, Trey Anastasio and many more still to come.

OMG- I can't believe you didn't put this guy first. You're the one who got me into Rush; I remember going to see them with you. They were so tight, like no other band I'd ever heard or seen. Alex has had to overcome some very sad diversity in the recent past, which is a bummer. He's such a great guitar player. I love these guys for their abilities, as well as their intelligence; going to see one of their shows was like getting an education!!!!

Back to Rush: one of my favorite bands of all time. Saw them twice; 1st time was the Moving Pictures tour in 1981, ala "Tom Sawyer," "YYZ".

Rock on, Andy T!
